Dr David Sharpe KC specialises in clinical negligence, professional negligence, serious personal injury, construction, sport, inquests & inquiries and property law. David practices within all areas of England & Wales and works for claimants and defendants.
He practiced as a doctor to Consultant level in Emergency Medicine (and is a Fellow of both the Royal College of Surgeons and Royal College of Physicians) prior to qualifying as a Barrister and retains an exceptional knowledge of scientific, medical and technical matters relevant to his current legal practice.
David is also admitted as a lawyer in Northern Ireland, Ireland, and the Caribbean (BVI, SVG and St Lucia) and has particular expertise in jurisdictional and cross-border matters. He is an experienced Arbitrator (FCIArb), Adjudicator, accredited Mediator, and is Public Access Accredited by the BSB.

Inquests
David is an experienced practitioner in Coronial Law and has appeared in many difficult and controversial inquests. He has a particular interest in hospital deaths and has represented Families, Trusts, Pharmaceutical Companies, Medical Defence Organisations, and Government Bodies.
Clinical Negligence
Given his background as a hospital doctor David is able to rely upon his knowledge and experience to bring the most difficult cases to a successful conclusion. This includes high value and complex cases involving brain and spinal injury ranging through surgical errors, delayed diagnosis, and fatal accident cases. David is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP).
Property & Land
David has extensive experience in all aspects of Chancery practice including Land Law (title, easements, rights of way, restrictive covenants, boundary disputes), Landlord & Tenant, Business Tenancies, Property Damage, Wills, Probate and Trusts.
Commercial Litigation
A wide experience of commercial practice covering injunctions, contractual, shareholder, financial, insolvency, insurance, transportation and sale of goods. He is a Member of the Commercial Bar Association, London Common Law and Commercial Bar Association, and the British Irish Commercial Bar Association.
Construction & Building Disputes
David undertakes all aspects of construction law and is familiar with the standard form contracts in use in the UK and internationally. He holds a Masters degree in Construction Law and is a member of TECBAR and the Society of Construction Law. Additionally, he is experienced in arbitration (FCIArb, FSIArb, FHKIArb), adjudication and mediation.
Professional Negligence
Expertise in respect of Accountants & Auditors, Actuaries, Financial Professions (Bankers, Stock-Brokers, Investment Advisers), Construction Professions (Architects, Surveyors, Engineers, Builders, Project Managers), Valuers, Insurance Brokers, Solicitors, Barristers, and Veterinary Surgeons. He is a member of the Professional Negligence Bar Association.
Regulatory (Including Sports Law)
David advises and represents clients in a range of professional disciplinary issues including Accountants, Financial Professionals, Doctors, Dentists, Nurses, Vets and Athletes. This extends to appeals before the Courts and other Tribunals. He has acted as Legal Assessor before the GMC and NMC and is currently a Legal Chair for disciplinary appeals of an Accountancy body. In addition David represents the BSB on hearings before the Bar Tribunals & Adjudication Service. In terms of Sports Law David has an extensive practice which extends to contractual disputes, sporting injuries , anti-doping, construction of sports grounds, and challenging decisions of sports bodies. He is a member of the Judicial Board of World Sailing, the Board of Appeal of the International Paralympics Committee and is Vice-Chair of the Sports Law Subcommittee of the International Bar Association.
