Employment
Gwynn was a part-time employment judge for over ten years. He has been before the Employment Appeal Tribunal, the High Court, the Administrative Court, the Court of Appeal and the Divisional Court, on many occasions, representing employers and employees, as well as before Employment Tribunals throughout the country. Several cases have involved public law and human rights issues and he has acted in complex discrimination disputes. He advises on (and drafts) employment contracts and is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association and the Employment Law Bar Association. He has post-graduate qualifications in Employment and European Union law and has lectured part-time.
Professional Regulatory
Alongside his busy employment law practice, Gwynn offers many years' experience of professional regulatory and conduct proceedings before a range of regulatory bodies. He has advised a large number of doctors, consultants dentists and veterinary surgeons and appeared before the GMC, Employment Tribunals, the EAT and the Court of Appeal.
Gwynn has also appeared in Police and army conduct cases involving disciplinary issues and led in serious criminal cases including murder, armed robberies and drugs in the Crown Court and Court of Appeal. Cases of interest include appearing before the Coroners on behalf of the police where an elderly male died as a result of taser use during a civil dispute and ancillary misconduct allegations and in the employment tribunal on behalf of an ex Royal Marine Commando where misconduct and negligence was alleged by Civil Nuclear Police in relation to use of firearms protocols.
Commercial
Gwynn has extensive experience of commercial litigation. This includes negligence, contract, building, employment and entertainment, copyright and patent disputes, sports law and insolvency. He has also represented Claimants and Defendants in a wide range of important civil litigation matters especially chemical poisoning disputes, accidents in factories, hospitals and on oil rigs, and medical negligence actions following surgery and professional negligence. He was Standing Counsel to the Department of Trade and Industry, for many years, undertaking company and commercial matters on their behalf.
Licensing
Gwynn was a partner and head of licensing at a firm of London solicitors representing Courage Brewery and other major licensing companies, including off-licence chains and supermarkets, and undertook significant work throughout England and Wales for 5 years and, thereafter, at the Bar. Gwynn has represented applicants and objectors (including police) before licensing justices and committees, at the Crown Court on appeals and in the Divisional Court. He has also undertaken high profile gambling matters, including casino cases, which appeared in the national headlines.
Inquests
Gwynn has appeared at inquests on behalf of the police and the deceased’s family plus commercial organisations, including representing police in a high profile case where an elderly male died after being tasered. He has also appeared on behalf of the deceased and employers and companies involving fatalities due to alleged defects in specialist equipment including diving fatalities inland (Dorothy Quarry North Wales) and on the sea.
